The question of the number of people who will ultimately end up hell or heaven has been heavily debated among theologians, pastors and others from time immemorial and continues to this very day. Answer or answers to this question is of profound interest to the human race as death is certainly a common denominator to all who walk on the earth. Engraved in the human DNA, regardless of religious or non religious affiliation is an intense interest in the after life. It does not matter if you are worth a trillion dollars or you are homeless, this is an innately human desire: “where will I or you spend eternity”? The population of the world currently stands at about 8 billion people and will most of these end up in heaven or hell?
Heaven will be Heavily Populated:
The argument that heaven will be heavily populated is by all accounts, very popular and easily, widely accepted and for good reason. Let’s be real! In the natural human psychic, is engraved the view that a good God would and could not throw billions of people in hell, would He? This argument is based on a flawed understanding of the character of God. It is based on an unbalanced view that elevates the goodness of God far above the justice of God. Sin separates man from God and why would a just and holy God allow even a single soul into heaven is beyond me? Hell is the rightful place for all humanity from Adam’s disobedience in Genesis 3 to the return of Christ in second advent. So the idea that heaven will be heavily populated is hardly supported by the biblical evidence.
Hell will be Heavily Populated:
The argument that hell be heavily populated is almost universally rejected and very few would dare to embrace such a horrible and reprehensible position. But the biblical account and evidence is pretty clear and consistent from Genesis to Revelation: In the days of Noah, some conservative estimates puts the world population at about 195 million people and only 8 people got in Noah’s Ark, Genesis 6:8, 7:1, 7:13. Getting into Noah’s in this context was a picture of getting into heaven and the rest were destroyed by God’s judgment in the flood and they went straight to hell.
It is recorded in Exodus 12:37 that 600,000 men left Egypt with Moses and so the total population that left Egypt is believed to be about 2 million to include women and children since only men were counted in the biblical record. The goal of their departure from Egypt was to get into the promise land and getting into the promise land was a picture of getting into heaven. When the Israelite got close 12 spies were sent to spy the land and 10 brought in a bad report and Numbers 14:23, 32:11 says that those who brought in a bad report would not enter nor see the promise land. So seeing the land and entering the land is equal to entering heaven. Moses did not enter that land but saw that land. Joshua and Caleb entered the land and all three , Moses, Joshua and Caleb are in heaven out of 2 million people who left Egypt . The rest perished in the wilderness and went straight to hell because of unbelief.
Finally the Words of Jesus:
There is hardly any real debate based on the words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 7:13-14, ” Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But narrow is the gate and narrow is the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.” So the idea that heaven will be heavily populated is clearly out of man’s imagination and lacking and biblical evidence and support.
