A staggering number of people around the world are facing an unprecedented levels of loneliness. Here is the state of loneliness as described in an article posted on the National Library of Medicine site, “Feeling socially connected is a crucial aspect of quality of life; in the absence of social connection, individuals experience loneliness. Loneliness is a known risk factor for poor mental and physical health in the general population and is linked to poorer health in cancer patients as well.” In 2023 the U.S. Surgeon General declared loneliness to be an epidemic highlighting its profound impact on both physical and emotional health. Some years ago British Prime Minister Theresa May appointed Tracey Crouch as Minister of Loneliness, stating the United Kingdom was in a crises as over 9 million British citizens are described as in a severe state of Loneliness. Her appointment was so important that the Minister reported directly to the Prime Minister and not to Parliament. Japan also saw an unprecedented levels of Suicide cases that promoted them to also appoint a Minister of Loneliness. This issue is so important that three of the world’s major economies declare it a national emergency. This issue is affecting more people than all cancers combined. It is easier to land a man on the moon than to conquer loneliness. Three of the world’s super power with the military and financial might have declared a war on loneliness and they are not wining. Loneliness has long been treated as a medical but is that really the case?
